This project aims to contribute to the development of policies based on the research and knowledge acquired on the features that characterize the flow of Haitians to Brazil and the conditions under which this migration occurs, particularly in the main transit countries (Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru).
The research is of great important to the relevant benefiting countries for the following reasons: a) a large percentage of Haitians are migrating using irregular means, b) there is limited capacity in the transit and destination countries to assist the migrants, c) the urgent need by the Brazilian government to evaluate the impact of its policy to grant visas to Haitians, and d) the role of the Haitian government to understand the phenomenon and establish proper services.
To ensure that the findings are translated into actions, several meetings, national and bilateral are foreseen with the purpose of promoting the formulation of policies to address the problems identified.
