Senegal does not possess a national migration strategy or policy. The Senegalese State is nevertheless faced with challenges linked to migration and to its effects on the social and economic development of the country; on the migrants themselves, and on host communities, as well as communities in transit.

The aim of this project is to respond to the Government’s request for support in the establishment of a national migration policy (NMP), which will take into account in a coherent and sustainable manner all aspects linked to migration. The Directorate for population, planning and human development, from the Ministry of Economy, Finances and Planning, has asked IOM for technical and financial support in order to elaborate the NMP.

The project aims to provide capacity reinforcement on migration management; technical support for the establishment of the NMP document; and the setting up of a platform to facilitate national dialogue and cooperation on migration issues.
