Protection and Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants

In 2012, the Government of Argentina increased law enforcement efforts to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants through Law 26.842. Nevertheless, further efforts still need to be made to prevent human-trafficking and hold traffickers criminally accountable.
In this regard, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of the government to contribute to the prevention and prosecution of the crime as well as reinforce the assistance to the victims.
The project will strive to achieve the three following outcomes:
1) The provincial security forces have increased knowledge on human trafficking related crimes and register information in a Federal Database for Information on the Crime of Human Trafficking (SISTRATA);
2) The Ministry of Social Development (SENNAF), responsible for identifying and assisting victims, is uploading and systematizing both qualitative and quantitative data, optimizing the implementation of the 2008 Protocol for Victims of Human Trafficking;
3) The anti-trafficking prosecutor’s office (PROTEX) implements a prosecution procedure that includes differentiation of human trafficking and smuggling, based on a pilot project developed in Argentina's north-western region, within the framework of this project.
