The project has supported technical cooperation and capacity building activities with the Government of Bolivia (GRB) focussing on reengineering of the system of communication and data collection for recording and analyzing the flow of persons through border points throughout the country. The present system uses a manual (hand-written) card record at the points of entry and exit. In order to begin to automate and expedite the flow of information in a secure manner, a process of software and system development has been initiated, including pilot testing at selected sites. It was anticipated that the improved communication and data system will benefit the government through access to more reliable data, and will benefit migrants through improved and quicker processing at border points.
