The proposed project will contribute to increase the availability and accessibility of health services for migrants in the benefiting countries – Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. This will be achieved through supporting the development of comprehensive and evidence-based migration health policies and legislation in line with international norms and standards. Two expected outcomes will contribute to the realization of this objective.
Firstly, efforts will be dedicated to enhance the legislative and policy frameworks related to health services provision for migrants in the three benefiting countries in order for governments in Central Asia to fulfil their responsibilities in the implementation of international standards. A comprehensive assessment of the existing legislation and policy framework will be carried out, at the regional and country levels.
Secondly, the knowledge, skills, capacity and commitment of key officials from relevant government institutions in the benefiting countries will be improved through the conduction of a regional workshop on migrants’ right to health, during which the assessment report will be presented. This event will also serve as a forum for stakeholders to exchange experience and ideas and actively discuss concrete paths for the implementation of recommendations aiming at the enhancement of health services provision for migrants.
